Plein Air Painting
Wilderness canoe trips to Canada and northern Minnesota ventured on during my teens and early twenties were instrumental life experiences for me. These trips became the foundation of a life-long appreciation of nature and our precious natural environment.
A few years after that, I realized that I would be happiest living in a place where I could be more in touch with the natural world, like southwest Michigan. It has been over 20 years since I made the decision to leave the hustle of the city and create a new lifestyle, business and home in this beautiful and bountiful area.
For me personally, absorbing the majesty and rejuvenating effects that nature provides is my escape from any of life’s worries. The internal calm and joy I experience by being in nature brings meaning to my life expressed through my artwork.
I like to work primarily in acrylics on wood panels but also experiment with digital media and new techniques. This provides an outlet for me to explore ideas away from the traditional painting styles that I have commonly used in my many commercial and residential mural projects over the years.
The Plein Air Artists of West Michigan have been a tremendous inspiration and supportive group for me. I love working outdoors with other artists or sometimes alone where I am free to interpret the beauty of the terrain in my own terms. I believe that creating rich and colorful representations in nature empowers me to work and live according to my highest potential and allows my spirit to soar.
